Exploring Antwerp Like a Local: How Unblnd Turned Strangers into Friends

Visiting a new city is always exciting, but it can also feel a little lonely when you don't know anyone. As I planned my first trip to Antwerp, I wanted more than just a list of tourist attractions — I wanted to experience the city through the eyes of locals. That's when I discovered Unblnd.
Using the app, I created an event saying that I was visiting Antwerp and was looking for locals to explore the city with. Soon after, I received messages from Adriaan and Jarne, two friendly people from Antwerp who offered to show me around.
Our adventure started in the historic Grote Markt, where the beautiful guild houses and the impressive Brabo Fountain immediately caught my attention. We then walked past the magnificent Cathedral of Our Lady, admired the stunning architecture of Antwerp Central Station, and enjoyed the lively atmosphere along the Scheldt River. They also introduced me to charming streets and hidden corners that only locals know, making the city feel much more personal than any travel guide could.
One of the most memorable moments was visiting Adriaan's home. There, I discovered his passion for music and DJing. He enjoys mixing music as a hobby and was excited to show me his DJ equipment. He even gave me a small introduction to how DJs mix tracks and create smooth transitions between songs. It was a fun experience and something I had never tried before. I also met his two lovely pets, whose playful nature made me feel completely at home.
Later, Adriaan and Jarne took me to an Indian restaurant. Since I'm vegetarian, they happily joined me for a delicious meal, making sure everyone could enjoy the food together. We spent hours talking about life in Belgium, different cultures, technology, travel, and our future goals. It didn't feel like meeting strangers — it felt like catching up with old friends.
The highlight of the day was exploring Antwerp on a cargo bike. Adriaan was riding while Jarne and I sat together in the front passenger compartment, which is usually meant for children. As we cycled through the streets, people smiled, waved, and gave us curious looks. We couldn't stop laughing, and it turned into one of the most unforgettable experiences of the trip.
That day showed me that the best way to discover a city isn't by following a map — it's by meeting the people who live there. Thanks to Unblnd, my visit to Antwerp became much more than sightseeing. It became a story of friendship, kindness, laughter, and unforgettable memories.
